Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare urges Catholics to participate in spiritual programmes
He said some Catholics spent more time on social programmes than spiritual ones, urging them to be more passionate in increasing their Christian faith.
The Auxiliary Bishop said this on Sunday in a sermon during his pastoral visit to St Kizito Catholic Church, Nima in Accra on the fourth Sunday in Advent
As the Advent season enters its final week, Catholics are reminded of the role that Jesus’ foster father played not only in the life of the Holy Family but also about the role Saint Joseph continues to play in the life of the Church and in each life.
He said Matthew 1:18-24 narrated how the birth of Jesus came about, saying Joseph knew that the penalty for adultery was death by stoning, but Mary was pregnant, and Joseph was not the father.
To protect Mary from public shame, Joseph decided to divorce her quietly.
He said Joseph’s action exhibited his faith and obedience and his role as protector of Jesus and Mary.
Some parishioners are Catholics not by faith but by food. Some prioritize social programmes like Easter picnics over retreat programmes
The Auxiliary Bishop explained that Advent means the preparation for the coming of Jesus Christ.
Bishop Asare said in preparing for the coming of Jesus, there might be smooth and challenging times, adding that “you can never prepare well enough.”
He urged Catholics to prepare for the coming of Jesus at all times because nobody knows when He will come.
“Christmas is a season of love; let us make someone happy. That joy of making somebody happy is your Christmas,” he said.
